The Critiqueur Support

Help, token and subscription FAQs, and a quick way to contact support.

Quick help

How The Critiqueur works (30 seconds)

Choose your critic, then capture or import a photo — crop or adjust it first if you like. The critic delivers a verdict, badges, and improvement tips. Reshoot and compare your attempts as your photography improves.

Tokens at a glance

Every critique consumes one token. New installs get free trial critiques. Top up with a monthly or yearly subscription (quota resets each renewal) or consumable token packs (never expire). Your balance is always shown in the app header, and one subscription's quota can be shared across your devices with a code.

Before you contact support

  • Restart the app and try again.
  • Check your internet connection — critiques require one.
  • Check camera permission in your phone settings.
  • If a purchase seems missing, try “Restore purchases” on the subscription page.

Purchase help

  • Subscriptions and token packs are billed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store — never by us directly.
  • If you purchased tokens and they’re not showing, reopen the app with a working connection; the balance syncs automatically.
  • Use “Restore purchases” (on the Manage subscription page) after reinstalling or switching devices.
  • For refund requests, Apple, Google, or Microsoft handles billing and refunds through their respective support flows.

FAQ

What are sessions and attempts?

A session is a critique journey about one subject; each photo you submit is an attempt. Use the ‹ / › buttons to step through attempts and compare them, or tap the centred Attempt X of Y button to open the session timeline with thumbnails, badges, and short verdicts.

Can I choose the critic's personality?

Yes. Pick from five personas in Settings → Critic Persona: Le Critique, the Gallery Owner, the Encouraging Mentor, the Picture Editor, and The Algorithm — each with its own voice and standards. Switch anytime; the change applies to your next critique.

Can I edit a photo before submitting it?

Yes, and it's entirely optional. Before you submit, you can crop, straighten, mirror, and adjust the photo. Skip straight to submitting if you'd rather not.

How do tokens work?

Every critique consumes exactly one token. Tokens come from:

  • Free trial: a few critiques are granted when you first use the app.
  • Monthly or yearly subscription: a critique quota that resets on each renewal.
  • Token packs: consumable packs that never expire and can be stacked.

The app spends subscription tokens first and saves your never-expiring pack tokens for later.

Should I subscribe or buy token packs?

A subscription is best if you critique regularly — you get a fresh quota every renewal (monthly or yearly), and it can be shared across your devices with a code. Token packs are best for occasional use — they never expire, but they stay on the device that bought them.

Can I share my subscription across devices?

Yes, without an account. On the Devices card in Manage Subscription, Share This Device produces a code; paste it into Link a Device on another device to switch it over to this one's subscription and quota, merging in anything it had first. A device with its own active subscription can't be linked until that subscription is cancelled, and unlinking later can't undo the merge — so only link devices you trust, and keep at least one device on the shared account.

Can I share my critique?

Yes. Any critique can be turned into a shareable card — photo, verdict, and badges — ready to post or send.

I reinstalled the app or switched phones. How do I restore my purchases?

Open Manage subscription and tap Restore purchases. An active subscription can be restored on any device signed into the same App Store / Google Play / Microsoft Store account. Token packs are linked to the device that purchased them; on the same device a restore after reinstalling will recover the remaining balance.

Are my photos uploaded? Where are my sessions stored?

Photos you submit for critique are transmitted securely to our service, where an AI model analyzes them to generate the critique. Your sessions, photos, and badge collection are stored locally on your device. Photos are not shared publicly and are not used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Do I need an account?

No. The Critiqueur works without accounts or sign-ups. Purchases are handled by the App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store, and the app keeps a device credential so your balance survives reinstalls.

How do badges work? Can I see badges I haven't earned yet?

Badges are generated by the critic per critique — for striking content, technical quality, or a marked improvement over earlier attempts. There is no fixed catalogue of unearned badges: every badge in your collection was actually awarded to one of your photos.

The critique seems wrong or unfair. What can I do?

Critiques are AI-generated, in a deliberately theatrical voice — treat them as guidance and entertainment, not absolute truth. If a critique is clearly broken (empty text, wrong language, obviously unrelated to the photo), please contact support with the approximate time it happened.

Can I delete an attempt or a whole session?

Yes. The 🗑 button removes the current attempt from the session. Whole sessions can be deleted from the History page, where multi-select delete is supported. Deleting is local to your device and does not refund tokens.

The camera won't open / I get a black screen.

Please confirm The Critiqueur has camera permission:

  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable The Critiqueur
  • Android: Settings → Apps → The Critiqueur → Permissions → allow Camera
I get an error when submitting a photo.

Critiques are generated on our servers, so a working internet connection is required. If the error persists on a good connection, note the error message and contact support. Tokens are not consumed for critiques that fail to generate.

How do refunds work?

All payments are processed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store, so refunds are handled by them under their policies — we cannot issue refunds directly. Request a refund via Apple’s “Report a Problem”, Google Play’s order history, or Microsoft’s order history.

How do I report a bug effectively?

Please include:

  • What you did (steps)
  • What you expected vs. what happened
  • Device model, OS version, and app version (shown on the About page)
